Safety Strategy

We believe in incident free operations and acknowledge that achieving this requires HSE (health, safety & environmental management) to be an integral part of how we do business. We all have a role to play; this is a continuous goal, forming part of our long-term strategy. Competence on all admin and contractors is evaluated on qualification.

EDUCATION /TRAINING

Responsibilities

Contractors are responsible for ensuring that employees are trained for their assigned work activities
including any specialised training recommended by all applicable manufacturers and/or suppliers,
prior to performing work.

COMMUNICATION, CORRESPONDENCE

Record keeping

Upon award of work, Contractor and Supervisory personnel shall attend an Seng'Khona Trading Enterprise sponsored Kick-off/Pre-Mobilisation Meeting, where Seng'Khona Trading Enterprise HSE Contractor Compliance Manual requirements and expectations shall be discussed and agreed
upon with the Contractors.

MANAGEMENT

Audits and assessments

Audits and assessments provide Contractors with an effective method of measuring the level
of compliance with the Contractors HSE Program. Audit and assessment reports identify HSE
improvement opportunities and help define preventative and corrective measures.

SITE PROCESSES

Process requirements

Specific processes to be implemented during site works shall be informed by the hazards and risks
identified and by the agreed scope of work between Seng'Khona Trading Enterprise and the Contractor.

CHEMICAL BLASTING

Complying is intergral

Failure to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and with Seng'Khona Trading Enterprise HSE Requirements / Specifications, may result in penalties or contract suspension up to and including formal contract termination.

INSPECTIONS

Continuos for all equipment

The Contractor shall inspect all ladders at regular interval and document these inspections.
Personnel who use ladders are responsible and expected to inspect ladders before use.

TOOLS

Safe Use of Hand and Power Tools

The Contractor employees using hand and power tools that are exposed to the hazard of falling,
flying, abrasive and splashing objects, or exposed to harmful dusts, fumes, mists, vapours, or gases
shall be provided with the personal protective equipment necessary to protect them from the hazard.

CHEMICAL LABELLING

Hazardous Chemical Substances

To comply with Hazardous Chemical Substances Regulations, the Contractor shall compile a list of
hazardous chemicals/materials’, collect, maintain and use MSDS ensure that containers are labelled;
and train their employees. 

CHEMICALS

Hazard Evaluation Procedures

Contractors shall compile and maintain on site, a chemical inventory list of hazardous chemicals/
materials known to be present at the site. Personnel who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals
need to know what those chemicals are and how to protect themselves

SITE SUPERVISION

Maintaining Safe Housekeeping

Site Supervisors are required to enforce and routinely monitor work areas. The Contractor supervisors are responsible for monitoring work areas for the following and ensuring the necessary conditions and precautions are taken to prevent incidents associated with substandard walking and working surfaces.
